Leaves are falling all around

We had a fun week at school this week. We learned about leaves this week. Specifically on how the leaves fall this time of year.

Tuesday - Jesica taught the class

She welcomed everyone to school - we missed Annie as she was still getting over her bug.

The children are really getting the hang of the routine of school. Finding our mats, show and share, singing, the Hello song, listening to each other. They love each taking a turn and hearing about each others show and shares.
I love that they know where their pictures are on the school house - and are each trying to come up with a different feeling for the hello song.

Jesica brought out our mystery box and shook it. The children listened and listened, there were lots of guesses. Trains, Cars, apples, dinosaurs, doggies. Then Jesica gave clues as to what could be in the box

*they grow on trees (apples, cherries oranges were guessed)
*they come in all different shapes, colors and sizes (more guesses)
*they fall to the ground in Autumn time  - they ALL guessed leaves

we talked about the different colors they come in. Black, purple, red, yellow, orange, brown, green how some have two to three different colors on them. That each tree has it's own unique leaves. The children enjoyed taking them out, throwing them up in the air, blowing on them,  trying to catch them, smelling them and trading with each other to look at different leaves.

Here they are with their Show and Shares

We played a counting game. They took turns picking a number card and then they counted out the number of leaves (1-10) onto the tree. (they each took one of these home on Thursday)

We ended our class with a nature walk to our nearby park.
Ashton was a PRO he filled his bag all the way. Gavyn emptied his bag a few different times.
And Ava and Calvin were pretty selective on the PERFECT leaves.

THURSDAY - I am not sure what happened, but I didn't get any pictures this day.
I walked Marlee to school and she helped me pick out leaves for the kids to look at and match in the book Jesica had read on Tuesday. The kids REALLY enjoyed looking at the real leaves and finding them in the leaf book to discover what tree the leaves fell from.

We sang our song - leaves are falling all around.
I had a leaf game ready for them - we had several leaves with upper and lower case L's on them and the
kids had to match each L/l to it's correct pile. They were SUPER at this leaf/letter sort.
we also played our leaf counting game (where we chose a number card then counted out the number of leaves to place on our tree) - I sent one home with everyone this week.

I REALLY loved our craft today (if I can say that!) I found a print of a tree (that is used at weddings - blown up on a huge canvas, then each guest leaves their finger print and signs their name under the print)I thought what a GREAT idea for these kids!!! SO I was able to print off the image of the tree (if you notice there is a heart in the middle of the branches) and we picked out fall ink colors and the children were able use each color on their trees. They turned out SO beautiful! (again if I can say that!!)

We had peaches, pears and cheese for snack. Then I let the kids have some free time while I cleaned up. We settled back down and played FALL memory (also sent home with you) - well the girls anyway. They boys were busy playing cars. : )

Happy FALL and thanks for sharing your kids with me this week.
