We are Thankful

WE had a great week at Joy School!

The kids came in and played at the Farm we had set up, they played with the animals and harvested the crops. The boys found cars to drive around the farm as well. And the girls brought in some barbies to help out at the farm too.
We welcomed everyone to preschool, sang our hello song. We talked about last weeks joy school. The children were so excited to tell me about the 5 senses and what they remembered from last week.

I brought out our mystery box and the kids guessed all sorts of different things. I started giving them clues and Ava guess FOOD. Jesica brought out our cornucopia and the kids filled it with the food.

We talked about why the cornucopia is a symbol of Thanksgiving. (also called the horn of plenty, it is a sign of the  harvest and the abundance of food) It was funny to hear them try and say the word cornucopia.

They liked putting the cornucopia on top of their heads. I thought they looked like little gnomes!

I read them a couple of thanksgiving stories. I found a cute make your own story on line like "Brown bear brown bear what do you see?" but it was Turkey, Turkey what do you see? The kids loved it and  I wish I had, had time/ink to make them each their own to color. But if you would like to I will send you the link.
We also read a make your own book about the first Thanksgiving.

We sorted Big T, little t - for turkey and Big P little p for pilgrims. - they love the letter sort. After our games our neighbor Jenna came down to help us learn a new song and to sing it in a round with us.
"For heath and strength and daily food we praise thy name o' Lord." We did it lot's of times until the kids learned the words and then we sang it in a round. SO CUTE!

I think I planned too much - because they started to get a little squirrely- so we had free play time again. While I got the craft ready. (we didn't get to our singing time scare crow - but at least we sang our Thanksgiving song).

I asked them what they were thankful for and tried not to prompt them. I gave then the example of what I was thankful for. "I am thankful for my family"

Ava was thankful for -Maggie, cornucopia because it holds food, family, breakfast and dessert, barbies, toys, lambie and tamahana.

Calvin was thankful for family, food, backpack, cars, stars, trees and leaves.

Gavyn was thankful for - Elmo, bouncy balls, cars, pens, paper, mommy, family, Ms. Nancy and nursery.

Annie was thankful for - family and my baby sister, toys, books and gifts.

Ashton was thankful for - family, mommy, daddy Magda, toys, and brothers and baby sister, food.

they did a great job putting together their thankful turkeys.  We cleaned up, then headed outside to our leaf pile. We are thankful for the beautiful weather we had to enjoy playing outside.

I couldn't choose just a couple of these pictures - so I loaded them all up for you to see and enjoy!
